Hungary Halts Fuel Deliveries to Ukraine, Warns of Further Measures

(MENAFN) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Friday that gasoline and diesel deliveries tied to Ukraine have been suspended, warning that additional measures could follow amid escalating tensions over oil supplies.

Speaking on Kossuth Radio, Orban said Budapest intends to maintain pressure until oil shipments through the Druzhba pipeline resume, according to reports.

“We won't give in until order is restored. We have stopped the delivery of gasoline and diesel, and we will stop other things that are important to them if necessary,” he said.

Orban accused Ukraine of deliberately blocking the transit of Russian crude oil to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline, describing the disruption as a political decision. “The Druzhba oil pipeline has no technical problems that would prevent the oil from reaching us,” he added.

He emphasized that Ukraine has obligations under international agreements to allow the transit of oil and warned that Hungary will employ all available measures to defend its interests. “If they are blackmailing Hungarians, they cannot expect us to make financial decisions in support of Ukraine,” Orban said.

Hungary has also threatened to withhold a €90 billion ($104 billion) financial package for Ukraine until the oil deliveries are restored.
