Orban Cautions EU of Facing Collapse

(MENAFN) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has cautioned that the EU is on the brink of collapse and may not endure beyond the next decade unless it undergoes a “fundamental structural overhaul” and distances itself from the Ukraine conflict.

Speaking on Sunday at the annual Civic Picnic in Kotcse, Orban argued that the EU has failed to fulfill its founding goal of becoming a global power and is unable to tackle current crises due to the lack of a unified fiscal policy.

He described the bloc as entering a period of “chaotic and costly disintegration” and cautioned that the 2028-2035 EU budget “could be the last if nothing changes.”

Orban emphasized, “The EU is currently on the verge of falling apart and has entered a state of fragmentation. And if this continues like this… it will go down in history as the depressing end result of a once noble experiment.”

He suggested restructuring the EU into “concentric circles.”

In his vision, the outer ring would encompass nations collaborating on military and energy security, the second circle would include members of the common market, the third would house countries sharing a currency, and the innermost circle would consist of states pursuing deeper political alignment.

According to Orban, this approach would expand cooperation while allowing for flexible development.
